MEDICAL

We at African Elite Safari are not medical experts. We suggest that you consult with your doctor to explain where you are travelling to and for how long. The places where we hunt are a few hours away from doctors and medical facilities, so if you have any medical health problems please inform us so we can take it into consideration.

We do however recommend that you take the following into consideration with your doctor:

  • Allergies: Can be triggered all year round from a lot of sources such as dust and pollen from plants. It is advisable to get allergy medication from your doctor. One of the biggest problems are bee’s and if you are stung and have an allergic reaction the medication would help a lot as a hospital could be hours away. If you have food allergies please communicate with us in advance so that camp staff can be prepared.
  • Malaria: Areas are located in the North Eastern parts and lowveld close to the Kruger National Park in South Africa as well as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia. It is important to discuss anti- malaria medication with your doctor. African Elite Safari do not recommend young children to travel to these destinations.
  • Prescription medication: When arriving with prescription medication bring along the prescription of the medication as well as the original boxes or containers.
  • Medical facilities: South Africa has adequate hospitals and medical facilities in case of an emergency. African Elite Safari do not provide travelling insurance so make sure you arrange it if you need to be transported to a hospital. When hunting in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, medical facilities are scarce and unreachable at times, so make sure you bring everything you need.
WHEN TO HUNT

When hunting or visiting Africa comes to mind you may think of blistering sun, sand and heat. You are not far off, during summer months which ranges from October until April, temperatures can rise up till 40’C (104’F) at some places in the North, Northwest, Northeast and the lowveld. Humidity in these areas hazes over you and some afternoons the land is cooled down with a spectacular African rainstorm.

During the summer the rain thickens the bush and scrubs reducing the ideal conditions for hunting in the bush. Ideal hunting time is during the winter when the rain is much less and the bush is less thick and it is easier to spot and hunt game.

During winter in the southern parts of South Africa in the Highveld areas (Freestate and Kalahari) temperatures can drop to 1’C (33’F) and reach a high of 17’C (62’F).

In the Northern part of South Africa and Southern parts of Africa (Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique) temperatures can drop to 7’C (25’F) and reach a high of 25’C (77’F). Hunting in these parts of Africa you can expect 2 seasons in one day so pack for cold and warm weather. Thus you will be comfortable at all times and enjoy your African Elite Safari experience.
